Burnout Prevention for School and District Leaders: a winter reset
Dealing with chronic stress and work-related challenges is something that impacts a wide variety of professions. But one role especially close to my heart — and central to my practice — is school and district leadership. I know how easily leaders’ own needs can be de-prioritized while they focus on supporting others. These are challenging times for public school administrators, and intentional reflection and burnout prevention are more important than ever.
Last week, I published a reflection about including mental health in our New Year’s resolutions. As a follow-up, I wanted to share a resource created specifically for school and district leaders — a reminder to take some time during this winter break to reflect and reset, with a focus on mental health. This worksheet (free download through the link below) just scratches the surface, but my hope is that it serves as a gentle nudge for leaders to pause, reflect, and consider simple strategies to recharge and prioritize their mental health in the year ahead. Because when leaders take time to care for themselves, they can continue showing up to support our school communities and our kids. Leadership wellbeing isn’t a luxury. It is essential.
